Farm Bureau

The American Farm Bureau was founded nearly 90 years ago to help farmers become more profitable and create an effective political lobbying presence nationally and locally. The Farm Bureau Financial Services eventually was formed and enables various state bureaus to provide insurance and other financial services to their members. In 2007, Farm Bureau Financial Services reported $12.6 billion in assets.

A collection of independent, non-profit associations in each state in which they operate, the various Farm Bureau associations require membership to use their insurance products. Much like an automobile association, anyone can join a local Farm Bureau for a fee and obtain discounts on various insurance items.

Each Farm Bureau association receives a financial rating from organizations such as A.M. Best and typically ranks highly among the nation’s most financially secure insurance providers. Most state Farm Bureaus offer various automobile, life and home insurance policies. Most also provide health insurance via Blue Cross-Blue Shield and other companies.
